AFW Wings
In 1997 it became evident that to continue the growth rate of Angel Flight West, a new structure was needed to expand the base of volunteers to be able to serve more people in need. After long discussions between the Board of Directors and the Executive Director the AFW Wings structure was born. Each state would have a local volunteer as a representative of Angel Flight West. This volunteer leader’s function would be to grow the Angel Flight West mission by increasing pilot recruitment and outreach programs within their local area. These individuals became AFW’s Wing Leaders.

Wing Leaders report to the Executive Director of Angel Flight West. One of the main functions of Wing Leaders is to mobilize other volunteers and form Wing Leadership Teams. The volunteers on these Leadership teams carry out the essential grass roots efforts to make Angel Flight a visible and viable service in that state, including such activities as recruitment, outreach, mission coordination, public relations, and social event coordination. Many Wings have social events and fundraisers that serve to build camaraderie within the Wing. If you want to help your local Wing, join today and help run or organize an event in your area today!
