About the Southern California Wing
Who are we?
Angel Flight West is a volunteer organization which assists with free air transportation services in response to health care and other compelling human needs. We have transported patients to hospitals, families to loved ones in need and donor tissue throughout the western United States. The SoCal Wing of Angel Flight West is the subgroup Angel Flight West that serves the Southern California region.
How can I get involved with Angel Flight?
You do not have to be a pilot or even like to fly in order to become one of us. All you need is a big heart and a little time to spare. There is just as much work to do on the ground as up in the skies. But, we promise that when or if you decide to go on one of our missions, you will be hooked for life!
As Angel Flight continues to grow, more and more people will be able to be served. Having more pilots and ground volunteers available will allow us to increase the number of linked flights, enabling patients to travel longer distances throughout the West for their medical treatment.
If you want to combine your love for flying with a great way to help your community, we encourage you to join Angel Flight. Please call or email our wing leader
Jon Wells or anyone listed on our leadership page.
The SoCal Wing currently has over 450 active members. About half are pilots, and the rest participate as co-pilots, as mission coordinators, helping with outreach activities, or simply as supporters of the organization. Of the pilots, some own their own airplanes and some are renters. Most fly 4-seaters and have only their private or instrument tickets. Our members come from different walks of life, but are united by a desire to combine their interest in aviation with a unique way of helping people.
The SoCal Wing of Angel Flight flies more than 500 missions each year. They vary in distance, time of day, day of week, and so forth. There are many opportunities to participate, but never any pressure to fly. How much or how little you fly is up to you.
The cost to join is only $50, and the annual dues are $35.
